Railroad Bill is a traditional Blues Ballad which dates back to the 19th century. It is said to be inspired by an American outlaw named Morris Slater who robbed freight trains in the 1890s. This song was recorded by Will Bennett in 1929. Dylan’s buddy Joan Baez also recorded her version in 1963.
