Take a Message to Mary was composed in the late 50s by American husband and wife country music songwriters Felice & Boudleaux Bryant. This song was first recorded by the Everly Brothers in 1959 and spent 13 weeks on the American Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“When I bought the “Seconds Of Pleasure” album by Rockpile in 1980, I was delighted to see the inclusion of a 45 RPM single inside the sleeve. It featured an absolutely lovely version of The Everly Brothers’ 1959 hit single “Take A Message To Mary” sung by Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe that I have never forgotten.  Since that recording was relatively obscure, I tried my best to re-create it for this collection.  I thought it was going to be easy to sing and play — it wasn’t — but I’m glad I went for it ‘cuz it gave me an even more profound respect for the Everlys, Dave and Nick and most especially the songwriting genius of Felice and Boudleaux Bryant.” – Michael Roe

“Introspective, autumnal solo artist .. bluesy frontman for the critically acclaimed 77s.. all-things-to-all-men guitarist/vocalist for the rootsy, collaborative Lost Dogs .. half of the alt-folk singing duo Kerosene Halo .. bassist for atmospheric alt-rock band The Choir … regardless of the hat he is wearing, Michael Roe has, over the course of nearly 40 years as a national recording artist, delivered well-crafted songs and lyrics to his audiences.”
