Let It Be Me was written by French songwriters Gilbert Becaud and Pierrre Delanoe in 1955. The Everly Brothers recorded an English version of this song in 1960. The Everly’s version of this song reached the number 7 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. “Let It Be Me” has since been recorded by many artists including Sonny & Cher, Glen Campbell & Bobby Gentry, Willie Nelson and others. Dylan was highly influenced by the Everly Brothers, and this is one of two Everly’s covers he recorded during the Self Portrait sessions.
